2022 Malbec

2022 Malbec

Released March 2024

Malbec was planted at Mayford in 2016 as a blending partner for Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon.  It lends grace and perfume to the structural, complex wine that is the Ovens Crossing. In 2022, a cool and very European season, a small parcel was bottled as a stand-alone wine.

Hand-picked, fermented with natural yeasts, hand plunged and basket pressed, the wine spent 11 months in old French oak. From the first day of maceration, it’s heady white florals and pepper spice characters were a revelation.

Medium weighted, lithe in structure and alluringly scented, this small parcel of Malbec is a gorgeous young thing.  Dark aromas of graphite and brambly fruits meet minerally spice and pretty floral notes- violets, daphne and gardenia.  It has lovely flavour intensity without heaviness and is polished with fine, silky tannins.

Drink 2025–2039.
