2014 Shiraz

2014 Shiraz

“It just has that little more power, and yet that little more finesse. This is arguably the finest Mayford Shiraz to date”.

Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front

“Mayford is one of the best producers of cool climate Shiraz in Australia: up with the likes of Giaconda and Clonakilla for their Porepunkah Shiraz.”

Anthony D’Anna, Boccacio Cellars Newsletter

Released October 2016

Warm, dry conditions in 2014 produced densely structured and serious Shiraz that will reward cellaring.

Hand-picked in small parcels over the first three weeks of March in 2014, the Shiraz came off in perfect condition. Some whole bunch influence has brought floral and spice characters to the brooding dark berry fruit.  Time on lees and extended post-fermentation maceration contributed earthy notes and a firm tannic core, which should see this wine live well into the future.

Exotic florals, violets and musk are coupled with a powerful depth of flavour. A fleshy mid palate of brooding black cherry and plum is laced with spice, toasty nuances and a lick of crushed herb.  The essence of this wine is the firm, tannic core which gives drive and structure.

Bottled under screwcap.
